Can we really solve global warming?

Can we really solve global warming?
Dan Richards from London (age 25-34)

One Response

  1. Some global warming (and cooling) is natural, and so, no we couldn’t solve this (unless we did something like putting mirrors in space between us and the Sun). Much of the global warming we’ve seen in the last few decades is attributable to human activities and so, yes, this is something we can solve. The main culprits for human-induced global warming are our emissions of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and others). By reducing our emissions of these gases, by burning less fossil fuel for instance, we can reduce the enhanced warming our activities cause and so reduce global warming. Unfortunately, the emissions we’ve already produced have committed us and the planet to a certain amount of additional global warming whatever we do. The challenge now is to keep this additional warming to a minimum and so avoid the most dangerous impacts of climate change.
