Why do we only see stars at night?

Why do we only see stars at night?
St Peters Primary School in South Lanarkshire (age 5-14)

Why can’t you see stars in the day?
Katie-Ann from Bedfordshire (age 5-14)

  1. The stars are still there during the daytime but we cannot see them because the Sun is so bright that it outshines them. This is because the Sun is very close to the Earth and the stars are so far away. Imagine lighting a candle in your driveway and then turning on the car headlights. The car headlights would be so bright that it would be very difficult for you to see the candle.
