Can the end of the world be predicted?

Can the end of the world be predicted, if so, when will it be?
Form 9O from Northamptonshire (Age 5-14)

Will the world ever end?
Harry Kelly from Tyne and Wear (Age: 5-14)

  1. Yes. That’s a simple answer. The trick is to know whether the prediction is right.

Astronomers predict that as the Sun ages it will gradually expand and swallow up the Earth. So, a prediction can be made when this will happen. There will be a certain accuracy in the prediction. In guessing the end of the Earth there is an accuracy of a few thousand years.

The prediction comes from astronomers observations of other stars in the universe and of the Sun. As knowledge of the behaviour of stars increases, then the prediction for the end of the world will probably change. The one thing we know is that it is a very very long time away. (That of course is a prediction 🙂 )
