  1. Dear Talis,
This is a fascinating question. The age of the world can be measured by looking at the oldest rocks and dating them by measuring the amount of tiny radioactivity left in the mineral zircon. The world’s oldest rocks are found in Australia and have been dated at 4,404 million years old. Small meteorites, from space that have been found, for example from Antarctica, have also been dated using this method and found to be a similar age – the meteorites being the ‘left over’ rocky material from the formation of the solar system. So we can say the world is about 4,600 million years old.
    Very best wishes
    John

  2. The world is about 4,500,000,000 years old – though you wouldn’t recognise it as the world had you been able to see it back then!
