Why does Science get such a bad press?

Why does Science get such a bad press? Why do news reporters proudly admit to ignorance of science when they would never dream of ignorance of politics or geography? How can we increase the numbers of scientists on TV portrayed positively?
Jennie Hargreaves from Dumfries & Galloway (Age 35-44)

  1. Yes you are correct, science often gets a bad press. Advances in science and with that technology, often lead to unpleasant side effects, for example pollution and global warming. Of course, physicists in the 20th century researched into nuclear fission with the inevitable invention of the atomic bomb – all of us know of the consequences of that in World War 2. The press love nothing more than stories of doom and gloom – they make wonderful headlines.
Presenting a better image of Science! – actually that is why the BA and NSEW exist – it is to portray a positive image of science to the public .
