What went bang and what made it go bang?

If everything started with a ‘big bang’, what went bang and what made it go bang?
Alan Stenfalt from Leicestershire (Age 55+)

The big bang theory – what was it that went bang and what made it go bang and what was there before?

  1. The questions you are asking are as yet beyond explanation by science. In the simplest terms the Universe appears to have come out of nothing. You could possibly look to quantum physics. In quantum physics it is impossible to predict how as system will behave so spontaneous change is permitted – in other words the early Universe appeared spontaneously out of nothing. All the variety and complexity that is now observed in the Universe came about by its evolution over a vast time scale. Of course the alternative explanation for creation comes from religious belief in a creator.
