When we eat meat does it keep its own DNA or change to our DNA?

As I understand it everything organic has its own “unique” DNA, including ourselves. When we eat meat for food and it gets converted into our body matter does it keep its own DNA or change to our DNA? Also if we had a liver or heart transplant does that organ keeps its own DNA for ever or does it change to our DNA?

  1. The meat you eat is macerated and dissolved in the stomach by acid. The DNA does not survive in its original form as it is broken up into its constituent parts which are absorbed in the intestine. The body then makes use of these constituents to maintain its cells and functions. Your question about DNA in transplanted organs is very thought provoking. The cells in the liver and heart will have there own DNA. The main purpose of the DNA will be to maintain the activity of the liver or the heart which of course means providing new cells as they are required. This DNA will in not be involved in reproductive systems where by the DNA could be passed on to an offspring.
