How do mammals generate heat to become warm blooded?

In mammals how exactly do we generate heat to become warm blooded as you never hear that someone has gone into hospital to have their boiler fixed Ha Ha! Also I understand it’s possible that great white sharks are able to do this and if so do they do it in the same way.

  1. When I asked this question I was wondering if this, what I can only imagine is a “chemical reaction” could be used in our quest for energy, as for the last goodness knows how many thousand years mans answer to his energy needs (apart from things like hydro and wind / wave power) has been to “burn” everything
If I had a horse I could fill it with a bag of carrots and it would then develop a considerable amount of power
as well as a bi-product which is good for the roses and the carrots!
So why can’t I have a car or central heating system that is fueled with say sprouts or a vindaloo (one of these must have potential) and remember “no burning allowed”
    Many Thanks Cliff
