How does water help your brain function?

How does water help your brain function?
Michael Lough from County Durham (Aged 5-14)

One Response

  1. Water is amazing stuff and we need it for all sorts of reasons. These are the ones that will have an effect on our brains:
It is a solvent for all the chemicals whose reactions keep us alive.
It is a chemical reagent in many reactions e.g. breaking down the chemicals that transmit nerve impulses across the synapses in the brain once they have done their job.
It is a medium for transporting other things i.e. in blood which brings e.g. glucose to the brain.
It helps to keep us cool because it takes a lot of heat energy to increase its temperature by even a small amount.
