Is it true that girls are smarter than boys?

Is it true that girls are smarter than boys?
Vicki from Cumbria (Aged 5-14)

  1. Hi Vicki :),
Yes! I think that many girls are smarter than some boys. Studies have shown that, in schools, girls can consistently achieve higher grades than boys in some subjects. Girls can often cope better with ‘multi-tasking’ too. Boys have their strengths as well, of course. More studies have found that many boys are better in activities which call for spatial awareness and manipulative skills. Girls tend to read more and communicate more, develop their vocabulary to a greater degree at a younger age than boys and also to retain new information more readily – in my experience that is… BUT… That is far from the whole answer!
Opportunity often enables individuals to discover and to reveal their natural talents. Limitations are sometimes imposed by the conditions and environment in which we live so there are always, as yet undiscovered potential ‘brains’ out there. Fine art, fashion, music, science and medicine have all benefited from the female brain. None of us can know the extent of our potential unless we try and try really hard! There are many natural and acquired skills to be developed in your life to come I am sure.
    Good Luck.
