What is the sun made of?

  1. The sun is made of gas. It was originally made from hydrogen but over time the hydrogen has joined together to make helium. At present, we estimate that the sun is about 34% hydrogen and 64% helium. That leaves about 2% of other heavier elements. For a comparison of the quantities of various elements go to http://www.kayelaby.npl.co.uk/chemistry/3_1/3_1_3.html
