    I’m a psychologist, so this isn’t quite my area. However, I’m going to make a guess for you and say Aspirin. Well, it wasn’t quite that, but a very closely related chemical called salicylic acid. It is found in the bark of the willow tree. We know that Hippocrates (an Ancient Greek physician, living in the fifth century BC) recommended powdered willow bark as a treatment for aches and pains, and also for a fever – just the way we use aspirin today.
