Why is everything round like atoms, planets, electrons?

Why is everything round like atoms, planets, electrons, why not square so the join together better
Charlee Mayes from Edinburgh (Aged 5-14)

  1. Electrons are so small they do not have a shape. If you are drawing a picture of an electron, you can put whatever shape you like- and most people seem to pick a circle. An atom can be imagined as a mini solar system -you have a lump of protons and neutrons in the centre and electrons circling around like planets round the sun. So actually an atom is mostly empty space., and thus does not have a definite edge. So when atoms are put together to form materials, the idea is not to squash in as many as possible, like stacking boxes, as they are mostly empty space anyway.
