Can some acid burn through anything?

Some acid can burn through anything – so why won’t it burn through the glass jars it kept in?
Harry from Buckinghamshire (age 5-14)

If acid burns stuff how can it stay in glass bottles?
Adam from Hertfordshire (age 5-14)

  1. Yes,glass can burn through anything but the glass jar it is kept in is made up of a chemical which cannot be burnt by acid.

  2. Hydrofluoric acid is quite good at burning glass. So we need to keep this acid in special plastic bottles.

  3. Different acids ( or bases of that mater) can have lots of reactions. with lots of chemicals. Some aides can eat through glass. Most acids and baces can be kept in a plastic container with no light. Keep them dry and in Airtight contairners. But don’t go putting in Acids and Bases in your empty coke bottle
